Tirupathur: A Blend of History and Natural Beauty
Tirupathur, named after the ten shrines surrounding Aathiyur and Kotiyur, has seen many historical transformations. Once known as Bramapuram, Thiruporur, and Thiruvanapuram, it was renamed Tirupathur by the Vijayanagara kings in the 14th century. The region is nestled between the scenic Javadhu Hills and Yelagiri Hills, offering natural beauty, including waterfalls like Beema Falls and rivers such as Arani and Miruganda.
The Javadhu Hills are home to the Malayali Tribes, who are mainly involved in agriculture. The region is also famous for sandalwood cultivation, housing Asia’s second-largest sandalwood godown, earning it the title of the “City of Sandalwood.”
Tirupathur is also renowned for its globally popular Ambur Biriyani and thriving leather industries, which contribute to major foreign exchange and employment opportunities. The Jolarpet Railway Station serves as a vital transport hub, connecting major cities like Trivandrum, Bangalore, and Mumbai.
