Kattubhava Pallivasal

There is an Islamic centre on the Thirumayam – Madurai highways road. It is located 30 km from Pudukkottai. It is constructed by Arcot Nawab during the 17 centuary AD. Pagruthin Avuliya alies Kattubhava samathi is situated here. The Annual URS festival is the familiar festival celebrated in this centre. Not only muslims but also Hidus used to visit this place.


Avur Chruch

Avur is located 20 km from Tiruchirappalli. It is 42 km from Pudukkottai. A Roman Catholic church was constructed here during 1747 A.D. It has existed here. The prominent Tamil scholar Rev.father Joseph Beschi (Veermamunivar) started his religious service by initiating a mission in this church. Periodically many foreign tourists visit this place. Viralimalai

A small temple dedicated to lord Subramania is situated on the top of a hillock. It is located on the Tiruchirappalli to Madurai National Highways road. The distance is 28km from Trichy and 40 km from Pudukkottai. An Inscription of this temple mention that the original temple has been built by a king Azhakiya Manavalan. Later on the addition were made in this temple by the Chola dynasty. Some other inscriptions told that the renovations of that temple were made by Adhithiya Chola. Other additions like pragaram and mandapas were made by Nayaks and Marungapuri dynasty, the Navarathiri Mandapam constructed by pudukkottai Emporors. Green plantations, roaming of peacocks are the adding attractions of this temple. Lord Subramiya with his consort Theyvanai have fulfill the wishes of the devotees. Chithira pournami, vaigasi Visagam, Teppa Thiruvizha, Kandasasti and panguni uttiram are the important festivals celebrated here. During the days dramas were performed from the the Viralimalai Kuravanchi wrote by Muthu palani Kavirayar.

Kodumbaloor

The name Kodumbaloor has been mentioned in the Tamil epic Silapathigaram. It is located at a distance of 35km from Trichy and 40km from pudukkottai. The architectural structure existed here are the forerunner for Dravidiyan style of architecture. The remaining structures of Muvar koil and Mujukundeeswarer temple attracts many tourist to this place. It is under the control of Archaeological survey India.


Kunnandar Koil

The name Kunnandar Koil is called as Thirukundrakudi in the inscriptions available in this Temple. It is located 40 km away from Pudukkottai and 22km away from Keeranur. A Siva temple (cave temple) was constructed in the time of Nandhivarma Pallava (775 AD). This temple exists in this village. Lord Muruga Temple is also available on the top of a small hill. There is mandapa in the shape of a chariot with horses that attract many tourists to this spot.


Malaiyadipatty

Pdukkottai District, at Keezhayur panchayat, is home to a Siva temple and a Vishnu temple. These are situated 33 km from Pudukkottai and 15 km from Keeranur. This area is known as Malaiadipatti. During 730 AD Nanthivarma Pallava carved the siva temple (Vakeewarer) from the Hill locks. The Vishnu temple was constructed after the Siva temple. Narashima Moorthy, Thirumal, Ananada sayana moorthy, and Ahishasan statue are the attractive statues in this Vishnu temple. Some of the paintings depict the ten avadars of Thirumal. They have been beautifully painted on the walls of Thirumal cave Temple. The mudumakkal Thazhi also available in some areas of this village in a burial ground.

Narthamalai

It is located at a distance of 17 km from Pudukkottai. Narthamalai is head Quarters for the Cheiftain of Mutharaiyar. The earliest structural stone temple is circular in shape. Vijayalaya Choleeswaram cave temple and Kadambar Malai temple are the main attractions of Narthamalai. Now-a-days the Narthmalai muthu Mariamman temple also attract many tourists to this place. The mullaipari procession is an attracting event of this temple.

Chithannavasal

Chithannavasal is a Prominent Tourist Centre of Pudukottai District. It is located on the Annavasal – Pudukottai Road at a distance of 17 km from Pudukottai. In ancient days the Jain Monks used to live in cave and hillocks so as to conduct their ascetic life. They polished the hill for the purpose of poojas and penance in the open shelter. Such a type of Jain temple and Jain beds are found in Sittannavasal and surrounding places. On the Eastern side of the sittannavasal hill have more than 17 beds . The rare Brahmi Tamil script inscriptions are found near the beds. The Jain Beds are collectively Know as Ezhadi pattam .

A second century Jain temple in Chithannavasal features Mahavir statues on both sides of the wall. It is considered a ‘Meditation Hall’ or Arivar temple. The ceiling of the Arivar temple are full of Fresco herbal painting dates back to Mahendravarma pallava. Paintings of a royal couple and a lotus tank with marine creatures are notable fresco paintings. These paintings are considered to be the next of Ajantha cave Paintings at Aurangabad. The cave temples are under the control of Archaeological survey of India.

The Excavations of Archaeological survey of India reveals that the surroundings of the Chithannavasal have unearthern burial pots. This pots are know as Muthumakkal Thazhi. After death the Jain monks are kept in the pot and buried in the Burial Ground.

The District administration, with financial assistance from the Tourism Department, incorporated the Miniature statue park. They also added a Children’s park, a dancing fountain, and a boating jetty near the Jain cave Temple. Many foreign and Domestic tourist used to visit this place throughout the year. It ranks first in the tourist arrival statistics of this District.

Avudaiyarkoil

The temple dedicated Athmanatha samy situated in Avudayar koil at a distance of 60 km from pudukkottai, contain life-size sculptures. The roof of the Avudaiyar Koil is made up of copper plates. It is akin to the roof of the Nataraja temple at Chidambaram, which has golden plates. The temple is noted for its granite roof work. Tha saint Manickavasaga had been given high focus in this temple. It has been under the control of Thiruvadu thurai Atheeyenam.

Kudimiyanmalai

It is located at a distance of 20 km from pudukkottai . The cave temples situated here are the testimony for the ancient art and culture. There is siva temple on a hill lock dedicated to Sikkanatheeswarer and life size sculpture were surrounded by this temple. There are more than 100 inscriptions with a highlight of an inscription expressing the gramatical notes of Karnatic music. There is famous Agricultural college owned and maintained by Government of Tamilnadu.


Events & Festivals

Jalli kattu

Jallikattu is a specilised rare event widely performed in the areas of Pudukkottai District at about 25 villages . Virallimalai, Thiruvappur, Alathur and Thirunallur are the familiar places where the jallikattu event performed in a grand manner every year. The familiar Virallimalai jallikattu has been observed by 34 foreign tourist last year 2018.

Pongal Vizha

The Department of Tourism organizes the Pongal Vizha cultural festival annually. It takes place during the Tamil month of Thy. The District Collector Pudukkottai inaugurated the Pongal Festival last year-2018. The Honorable Minister for Health also participated in this event as the chief guest.

World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day has been celebrated by the Department of Tourism every year on 27th September. During 2018 it has been celebrated in sittannavasal Tourist spot with cultural dances. The District Collector Pudukkottai inaugurated the world Tourism Day Festival. The Honorable Minister for Health participated in this event as a chief guest last year, 2018.

Cleanliness Compaign

The Department of Tourism organized the Cleanliness campaign to clean important tourist spots. This campaign aims to create awareness of cleanliness among tourists. During 2017 it has been arranged at Sittannavasal tourist spot with the co-ordination of H.H.Raja college NSS students Pudukkottai on 10.10.2017.

School children Educational Tour

For the first time, the Department of Tourism has organized an Educational tour. The goal is to create awareness among the school children about the tour. In Pudukkottai District, 150 poor children from government schools were chosen. They have been brought up to this tour. The sub collector of Pudukkottai inaugurated the Tour. The District Collector of Pudukkottai blessed the students during their visit at the Government Museum on 21.02.2018.
